Riding in Cars with Swedes: Ferry Edition

So Baltic. Much Sea. Wow. |
Way back in June at Drachenwald's 30th Year Anniversary and Coronation a group of us might have gotten a little tipsy and decided that what we absolutely needed to do was reconvene at Lucia Feast (and Nordmark Coronet and Styringheim Baronial Changeover and, it turns out, Medieval Week Holiday Nonsense).
So we did.
And it was magical.
First and foremost, taking the ferry with, like, 25 of your (soon-to-be) closest friends is an excellent way to travel. There were drinks and food and games and projects and just general frivolating the likes of which are impossible to achieve with a few people in a car, one of whom is always having to drive. I also, finally, had Road Trip Ice Cream, which has heretofore been elusive. ::stares at previous Car Swedes::
My experience of Swedes In Their Natural Event Habitat is that they're super chill and very good fun. There was loads going on, mostly happening in the ruins of a church whilst it snowed and, honestly, it could have been just one massive business meeting and I would still be all ::heart eyes:: about it. Did I mention magical? Magical.
A key component of my weekend was test-driving a new period in clothing for me - 1390s Italy, to be specific (waves 'hello' at my inspiration, Tacuinum Sanitatis). My ensemble was an absolute hack job of off-the-rack and panic-sewn (from a late-period pattern), with a bit of vintage fur, but I achieved my two goals: look more or less correct, and be warm. Probably the biggest win, though, was figuring out how to get my hair sorted out so it looked like a proper taped braid, rather than the exploding rats nest of layered locks that Must Be Contained. There will be adjustments to the kit for the future, though - I liked the look and it was (mostly) comfortable.
I didn't take enough photos, is the thing. I was attending during Saturday afternoon's court, so couldn't capture the splendour and I was really just having to much fun simply being there.

I did manage to get a nice shot of Emo Pony being Emo, though |
I mean...I took some shots of architecture, as is my wont, because I'm a sucker for a good timber-framed building, but not much else.
Anyway...there was a great deal of wine, an EXCELLENT feast (theme: foods connected to poisonings), and a nearly-missed-ferry adventure that we'll probably laugh about later. I strengthened ties with old friends, made some new ones, and was subjected to Peer pressure about Double Wars. And Medieval Week. And just flat-out moving to Sweden. They were kind of aggressive, really.
Honestly, the only thing not mind-bendingly awesome, or hilarious, or awesomely hilarious about this trip is that I used the wrong size needle for the second mitten I was hoping to finish for the event, and didn't figure it out until half-way through while I was on the ferry, so now they're in the punishment pile so they can think about what I've done because I AM SO MAD AT THAT ROOKIE MISTAKE. (Gah! Just read the damned pattern, y'dumbass. ::massive eyeroll::)
In the mean time, I'll be tinkering with this new look, because I really liked it. If I run across any good photos, you'll all be the...second? Third? to know. Also: go to Nordmark. Just go. Double Wars registration is, I'm told, in February.
